Writing Online...

Writing online can be a fun, rewarding experience whether or not you get paid. But isn't having fun, and getting a rewarding experience AND getting paid even better? Yes. So here are ten websites to help make the dream of writing online for money come true.

Where to Write Online and Get Paid

Blogger

Yes, you CAN make money blogging, but it takes a lot more effort that most of the other options on this list.  But if you feel you really have something to offer a niche market, and you can commit to working on a blog as much as possible (maybe even everyday), then give blogging a try.  Once you have a good blog up with some great content, you can start putting advertising up to make money.  Blogger makes this easy as they make working with Adsense and Amazon Affiliates super simple.  I am not the best with stuff like that, but Blogger makes it possible, even for me.  In order to make money this way though you need to be driving in some amazing traffic to your site.  Do some research on driving traffic to your blog so that you can start your efforts as soon as possible.

Suite 101

I am not as familiar with this website, as I haven't done much for them.  But the sign-up process wasn't too bad and they offer freelance writing jobs.  There are a lot of writers on this site offering up interesting content.  I think it's worth another look for sure.

All Voices

At All Voices, you can write about breaking news, current events, latest news, and world events AND get paid for it.  It is a great site if you enjoy writing in a journalistic manner for sure.  I've done a few things there, and I like it, but I personally prefer to write articles that are not as dated as news stories, so this site only gets a little of my attention.

Demand Studios

DS offers freelance jobs for writers, copyeditors, and filmmakers, plus many other online jobs and work from home tasks.  If you ever wrote for eHow and are good at writing in that format (How-to), Demand Studios is now the way to write for eHow.  I personally think it is difficult to write for DS (unless maybe you have a writing degree)... but it pays well.

Associated Content

Associated Content is run by Yahoo.  It has information on almost every topic you can think of.  You have quite a bit of freedom here.  Plus it's easy. Submit your content and get paid.  But be prepared to write a LOT.

Examiner.com

To write for the Examiner you have to fill out a detailed application and submit a writing sample, so it's not a simple process (or guaranteed).  But if you get accepted, you are set up as a specialist in your area of expertise on Examiner.  It's pretty exciting to have a title.  I am the Lansing Electronic Music Examiner.  It makes me feel pretty cool, and it gives me a professional title to display in my online profiles so that people can see that I am not just someone out there offering quantity not quality, but that I am a dedicated, knowledgeable writer. You can get paid a little on articles (with some stipulations) and you also gain royalties.  I'm not sure how many articles are really needed to see regular money coming in, but the professional look and feel of the Examiner makes me hopeful that I can find a lot of success there.

Bukisa

Bukisa is an easy and fun writing website.  You share your knowledge and get paid with royalties from your work.  Even with only one article up, I was still bringing money in on this site.  I am looking forward to writing more there.

Squidoo

Squidoo is an incredibly fun site to write for (and earn royalties on) because you create "lenses" instead of basic articles.  Lenses can have pictures, polls, Youtube videos, advertising, links, and so much more.  Another thing that makes Squidoo fun is its community.  It is filled with nice, knowledgeable people who really enjoy being Squidoo "Squids."  I haven't even mentioned the best part of this site yet.  The best part, is that Squidoo makes it really easy to donate some of your royalties to charity.  I have all my lenses set up to give me some money, donate some money to the ASPCA, and donate the rest to other misc. charities.  I love having that option available to me so easily.

List My Five

List My Five (or List My 5 or LM5) is my new favorite site to write for.  My whole life I have loved making lists of things I loved or what I thought was the "best of" different things, so this site is a dream come true.  I get to make Top 5 lists and get paid for it.  It's amazing!  For anyone who is familiar with eHow, List My Five is very similar, even calling their earnings system the Writers Compensation Program (WCP).  The one thing about this site is that it is not as "big" as some of these other sites.  But it is so much fun!  And I have faith that it will be big soon, especially if more people check it out and see how great it is.

Hubpages

Of course Hubpages is on this list!  I am here right now!  Hubpages is completely free, easy to write for, and on it, you can earn money online from ad revenue.  Like Squidoo, Hubpages allows you to add variety to your articles by offering ways to add links, polls, pictures, etc.  The community at Hubpages also seems to be really friendly, which is always a plus when writing online.

How do I Know About All These Sites? I Write for All of Them.

Yes, I write online for money and I use all of these websites where you can get paid to write. I also use blogger, and have my own set of blogs with Google Adsense, Amazon Affiliates, and a few other affiliate links on them. Most of my money still comes from royalties from eHow.com (who you can still write for, but only through Demand Studios), but the others are starting to gain ground too.

Nice post. Lost of great sites here. The key is to diversify, and with so many options that's certainly possible.

Thanks for the tips - So far I only write on Hubs and mainly for fun - but as retirement age approaches and income is not where I need it LOL - who knows!

Thanks

I haven't written for Triond, but you're making me want to try it out for sure. :) Thanks for the info.

You missed my favorite site Triond. There is where I earned $118 for Sept 2010 and $188 for Oct 2010. I have given the details and proof of earnings in my profile page, if you can't believe what I said :-)
